What is the greatest weight loss secret? Is it lowering your food intake? Is it increasing your exercise? Is it a new magic pill or diet drink?
There is a fellow down the hall from my office. For several months now he has been trying to convince everyone he sees that this new magic, all-natural pill has helped him lose 30 pounds in less than 2 months. He claimed he has lost over 90 pounds total. What he fails to say is that over 60 of that came from lap-band surgery. Then he gained some of the weight back and now uses these pills to help him go on a starvation-like diet.
Another friend of mine and his wife are telling everyone that together they lost a combined 105 pounds in 3 months. He lost 55 and she lost 45. They found a doctor that gave them some kind of injection and they lived on a 500 calorie a day diet... another form of starvation.
Of course you don't have to watch much TV or listen to the radio very long before an advertisement for some new and miraculous cure for obesity comes on. The irony is that none of those magic ingredients are nearly as powerful as one simple reality:

Do you remember the old story about putting fleas in a jar? The story goes that if you put a bunch of fleas in a glass jar and screw the lid on they will start trying to jump out. Now, fleas are supposed to be extraordinary jumpers and could normally jump right out of the jar were it not for the lid. After a day or so, you can remove the lid and the fleas will jump but only to the top of the jar and not beyond. That's because they have become conditioned to only jump so high and, I suppose, prevent themselves from being injured by hitting the lid (which has now been removed).
We do that exact same thing. Over the years we have created imaginary barriers that we perceive to be limits to our success. Unfortunately, many of these barriers were put in place before we were 6 years old. But the point is, they are imaginary... not real. But, just like the fleas, we perceive them to be real and thus they limit our ability to move past them.
So, what does this have to do with your losing weight? It's everything! One of the most neglected elements in weight loss is actually seeing yourself at your ideal weight. When you can paint a mental picture of yourself at your ideal weight, you will have essentially won the battle.
Why do people buy magic pills and potions and spend millions of dollars on gimmicks to lose weight? It's because these things promise to break the barriers that are keeping you from losing. And, they work, at least temporarily. However, when you can break your own barriers when you remove you own "lid". You will reach your ideal weight, without the aid of pills and potions and can you can maintain it forever! See it, be it.
How do you paint the picture and destroy your mental barriers?
I am going to share a technique used by Natalie Ledwell as part of her MindMovies.
  1. You sit down in a comfortable place. You close your eyes and begin to take deep, relaxing breaths.

  2. Get as relaxed as you possibly can. Your arms and legs feel warm and a bit heavy.

  3. With your eyes still closed begin mentally counting backwards from 10 to 1. As you count down, feel yourself relaxing deeper with every number.

  4. Now, picture yourself in a beautiful place. Maybe on a beach or in a meadow. Wherever you can feel nature. You feel safe and totally at ease. You notice your surrounds. What are you hearing? What do you smell? Is it warm? Is there a breeze gently blowing? Just savor the peace and beauty of this place.

  5. Now as you are in your safe and beautiful place, imagine 2 pictures appearing in front of you. One is very large and positioned directly in front of you. The other is much smaller and positioned in the upper left hand corner of your view.

  6. Stare at the larger picture. It is you at your current weight. As hard as you try, you can't lose weight. You try to eat less. You try to exercise. You try to do all the right things but you are still heavy and can't seem to do anything about it. You are a failure. You feel all alone and not even worthy to be slender. Feel this pain. Feel this heartbreak. Face this picture head on.

  7. Now, notice the smaller picture. It is up in the left hand corner and much smaller than the one in front of you. But it's different. It is a picture of you and you are at your perfect weight. You are happy. You feel younger than you have in years. Your friends are showering you with compliments. You are active, doing the exciting things you have always wanted to do. You look incredible.

  8. Now, in an instant, switch the pictures with a snap. The picture of you at your ideal weight is now in front of you and the "old you" is in the background.

  9. The old picture keeps trying to come back and dominate your view but every time it does, snap it back so that the "new you" remains in front of you. Keep snapping the "new you" picture to the foreground until it is all that you are conscious of.

  10. This is you. Feel yourself smiling as you feel so alive and happy. It's a beautiful picture.

  11. With this picture firmly planted in your minds eye, start wiggling your toes and fingers. Bring yourself back to consciousness, alive and feeling refreshed.
Try spending 10 minutes a day painting your own mental picture of yourself at your dream weight. I think you will be very impressed with the result.

My Experience Using Raspberry Ketone for Weight Loss

The Beginning of My Journey
I first heard about Raspberry Ketones from a well known TV doctor. This was a little over a year ago when I was first starting my weight loss journey. At the time I wasn't taking any supplements, I had recently started eating healthier and had started walking and working out at the gym a couple times a week.
Prior to watching the show I had never really believed that a supplement could help me lose weight, I was 100% sold on the "eat healthy and workout" way to lose weight. How Does it Work
Warning: Please prepare yourself as I may talk a little nerdy in the following paragraphs.
Raspberry Ketone helps with weight loss by starting lipolysis. Lipolysis is the breakdown of fat, in essence Raspberry Ketone takes the fat from a stored state, which is common in overweight and obese people, to a state where the body can use it as energy. Fat is a form of energy that is under utilized in those of us with tons of weight to lose. This ability to start the breakdown of fat is a huge reason why the supplement is effective.
The regulation of adiponectin, which is tied to the above is another reason why Raspberry Ketone is helpful in losing weight. Adiponectin is a hormone that has been found to be tied with obesity. High levels of adiponectin have been linked to being skinny, the reverse is also true, with low levels being linked to obesity. Sometimes these ingredients are not safe, or have additional side effects. Personally I stick with pure Raspberry Ketone. Also women who are pregnant or nursing shouldn't take the supplement, you shouldn't take any weight loss supplement when you are pregnant or nursing.
My Results
Since I also work out and eat healthy every month, it's hard to judge how much of my weight loss comes from this one supplement, but I know my losses went up after starting the supplement. I also have tested it in a couple of different ways but nothing 100% definite as to its effectiveness. My goal has always been losing weight so I don't want to affect that goal by doing a proper test and potentially wasting time not taking a supplement that is helping me. For those reasons my results section of this will be somewhat speculation based on my limited tests and the way I feel about the supplement.

There are tons of opinions about the recommended dosage, I have always chosen the highest to maximize my losses. I have also seen lower dosages suggested but since there is certainly no harm in taking 1000 mg a day and very little cost difference I opt for the 1000 mg a day.

Exercises To Lose Weight: What Are The Best Ones?

There are many types of exercises to lose weight. Some of them are more suitable for an advanced trainer, whereas some are suitable even for beginners. Among these exercises, some are more effective, while some are less effective. I do not see the point in performing exercises which yield only minimal results, and that you should only focus on performing exercises which actually strips fat as quickly as possible from your body.

The first exercise will be interval cardio training. It involves running, but is vastly different from regular jogging because of several reasons. It is a form of exercise, where you run for a predetermined period of time, and jog at a somewhat leisurely pace right after that for another predetermined period of time. The amount of time spent running is usually half of that spent jogging.

 To take a simple example, you will be sprinting for one minute, then jogging for two minutes. You should find a preset level of running intensity such that you will be testing your body's potential without over-exerting yourself. You should perform as many sets of the above until you feel like you are not able to proceed with the exercise anymore. Interval cardio is great not only for improving your running abilities, but also for stripping away fats from your body quickly!



The next exercise is actually a body weight exercise circuit. Let me first explain why I recommend this. Body weight exercises require us to make use of the stabilization muscles, which is not activated when we use machines in the gym. Also, it builds functional strength, and is generally easy to perform with less chances of injury. At the same time, it strips fats from our bodies very quickly as well! With that said, there are slight differences in the type of exercises to be performed within the circuit for men and women due to the variation in difficulty of the exercises.

For the ladies, you will be performing push-ups, incline pull-ups, and squats. You should ideally perform twenty to twenty-five repetitions of each exercise, back-to-back within each set. If you are not able to perform that many repetitions, fret not, and start from a lower number such as ten. This body weight exercise circuit should be performed for at least three times. If you are more advanced, you can do more.
For the men, you should do push-ups, pull-ups and squats. You should aim to perform about thirty repetitions of push ups and squats in each circuit, and about four to eight sets of pull ups. Repeat this circuit for three times. You can increase the intensity as your strength increases.
Remember, before and after completing the above exercises, always perform warm up and cool down exercises respectively.

Are body weight exercises for you? Whether you are a man or woman, body weight exercises can be an important part of your overall exercise program, and here are the reasons why.

Now body weight exercises are just another name for any movement that pits one part/muscle of your body against another. For example a standard military pushup is a body weight exercise. Another body weight exercise would be leg squats. Pull-ups are also a body weight exercise.


In fact if you only did these three exercises: pushups, squats and pull-ups you would work out every major muscle group and gain strength, muscle mass, flexibility and endurance.
Most of us are familiar with these exercises either from gym class or playing on a sports team or military boot camp. These exercises have been used for thousands of years to train and condition athletes and warriors. Each of these three exercises has many variations and by increasing the reps and the speed in which you do these exercises you can really burn calories and increase your endurance.


Many of the new workout programs are being promoted today, you know the ones heavily advertised on TV. Using videos, an exercise mat, resistance bands and calisthetics you can see spectacular results in thirty, sixty or ninety days. Well the truth is it works! The other secret is you do not need to spend a lot of money on these programs when the basic exercises are familiar to nearly everyone.

Now that is not to take anything away from these programs. The ones I have seen offer solid techniques and information. What do I have against this weight loss philosophy? I have a few arguments against it, but the one I want to discuss in this article is the part about exercise. I firmly believe that there isn't necessarily any kind of exercise required to lose weight. I'm sure that statement got your attention, and I assure you it's based on solid grounds.

You see, after so much research done on this topic over the years, the best, certifiable method to lose weight that is scientifically proven is through caloric deficit. The best way to create this deficit is to consume fewer calories than you burn. 
In order to know how many calories you burn in a day, you have to figure out what your BMR (basal metabolic rate)/RMR (resting metabolic rate) is. Consuming a total amount of calories below your BMR will put you in 'weight loss mode', so to speak.


Sure, exercise helps to burn calories, but most people grossly overestimate the amount burned during a workout. I'm not saying exercise doesn't help a little, but it certainly isn't a need that is set in stone. I've participated in different forums and you wouldn't believe how many people ask what the best exercise to help them lose weight is, when what they really should be focusing on is the amount of calories they are consuming. This shift in mentality saves you the stress of worrying about the types of exercise required to lose weight.

  4. Combine the remaining ingredients and pour over the chicken.
  5. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes, until fork tender, basting occasionally with the pan juices.
