All work and no play can do much more than make Jack a dull boy. Long periods of overload, stress, frustration, poor working conditions or feelings that there is no light at the end of the tunnel can trigger brain drain, or even worse -- physical illnesses such as ulcers, indigestion, headaches, heart conditions, stroke and cancer.

Your best defense is to know your stress threshold, recognize when you're about to cross it, and take action immediately to release it. While it is important to attend to all the 'stuff' that is going on around you, it will be counterproductive if you burn yourself out and cannot function effectively. After all, will the situation be better if you are incapacitated due to depression or illness?
